Bela Padilla, Fianca Cruz represented the Philippines at 2011 Asian Super Model Competition
Designer Nono Palmos once again showcased his world-class work as he provided the National Costume being worn by our country's representatives in this year's Asian Super Model currently held in China. This includes GMA Artist Center (GMAAC) stars Bela Padilla and Fianca Cruz and model Kimberly Tan. His latest accomplishment coincides with the launch of his newest collection of trend-setting designs.
"Today," he said in a recent interview, "fashion trends are inspired largely by life. Gone are the days when fashion designers can dictate a trend or style based solely on their creative imaginations. Fashion has gone into a state wherein designs are dictated by the people themselves."
More than 30 young beauties from various Asian countries, including the Philippines, are participating in this year's Asian Super Model, touted as the region's biggest model contest. Grand finale is set in Nanning, China. The competition, open to 16 to 24 year old girls, requires models to display their "Asian style and charm."
Other countries with representatives are China, Japan, South Korea, Mongolia, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and India.
In last year's edition of the prestigious tiff, Pinay models shone with participants Mariana del Rio, Bianca Paz and Gwen Ruais making our country proud. Mariana won third runner-up while Bianca and Gwen bagged the special awards for Ms. Photogenic and Best Runway Walk, respectively.
As fas as the Asian Supermodel contest is concerned, the Filipina charm goes beyond the ramp as even behind-the-scene stewards from our end managed to come out fabulous. GMA Artist Center (GMAAC) head Ida Henares became the first-ever Filipino judge in the competition usually dominated by representatives from founding countries China, Korea, and Japan.
Now a member of Asian Model Association, she led GMAAC delegates Rhian Ramos, Stephanie Henares, Rich Asuncion, Arci Munoz, Lou Munoz, Abby Cruz, Rhea Nakpil and Anthea Murfet to a triumphant stint in the same competition a couple of years back.
Nono, in acknowledgment of celebrities excelling in fashion, stated, "Celebrities have crossed over into the realm of lifestyle so I find many young actors and actresses to be creative in their outfits. They are not afraid to try new things and explore their limitations. Their willingness to find new ways to express themselves through clothes makes fashion truly exciting these days."--Manila Bulletin
